If you keep seeing ants no matter how often you wipe them away, the nest is the real problem. Ant nest treatment is about finding where the colony lives and treating it there, rather than dealing with a few hundred workers at a time. Nests can be in all sorts of places. Some are easy to spot, like a mound in the lawn or sand piling up between pavers. Others are tucked inside wall cavities, under a slab edge, in a pot plant or behind a retaining wall. Coastal brown ants and black house ants often nest right beside the slab, just out of sight.

Where a nest cannot be reached directly, such as deep inside a wall, the crew uses baits that worker ants take back inside. That takes a little longer to show results, but it reaches the queen. Before the visit, avoid spraying the trail so the crew can see where the ants are heading.
